Capstone Physical Therapy’s Functional Training Approach

Our blog
Capstone Physical Therapy and Fitness

Capstone Physical Therapy and Fitness is a full-service Physical Therapy Practice with three local offices. Our locations are in Morrisville, N.E. Philadelphia, and Southampton. At Capstone Physical Therapy, we offer a holistic approach, focusing on the entire patient as a whole, which we refer to as our “Functional Training Approach.”

Meet Our Experienced Therapists

Mark Donathan and Brian Kirby stand at the forefront of our team. Each boasting over 20 years of experience, they have both earned their stripes as certified fellows of Applied Functional Science through the Gray Institute—a distinction few Physical Therapists in the area can claim. With their in-depth understanding of the biomechanics involved in human movement, they exemplify Capstone’s unique approach to care.

Personalized Assessments for Your Dysfunction

When you come for an assessment at Capstone Physical Therapy, it’s not just a routine check. We give you a comprehensive evaluation, meticulously tailored to your specific dysfunction. With a keen eye, we examine balance, flexibility, strength, and endurance. Taking knee pain as an example: traditional practices might gauge strength and motion range, handing out a program based on those findings. In contrast, Mark and Brian delve deeper, investigating how the foot, ankle, and hip—on both sides—affect your function. They examine gait mechanics, strength, static balance, and dynamic balance. This thorough individual assessment ensures efficient problem pinpointing, leading to faster and more wholesome recoveries.
Manual Techniques and Pain-Free Exercises

One of our highlighted features is the True Stretch cage. This tool allows patients to assume upright functional positions. Here, we execute manual techniques along with stretching, strengthening, and balance exercises—all without causing pain. Progressively, patients step outside of the cage. Initially using bodyweight resistance, the difficulty level incrementally rises, but always in a pain-free manner. Instead of the age-old paper-based instructions, we provide video home exercise programs. These videos are in-depth and are curated specifically for the individual.

It’s noteworthy to mention some of our proudest achievements: numerous patients who, after unsuccessful therapy attempts elsewhere, found relief with us. Before resorting to medications, injections, or surgeries, consider another therapy round—this time, with therapists who adopt a different, patient-focused approach. Our ultimate aim is not just restoration to a pain-free state, but to elevate you to a better state than pre-injury.
